Court Security Officer – Part-time
The Certified Court Security Officer (CCSO) is a critical part of the everyday operations of the Sheriff’s Office. The Certified Court Security Officer (CCSO) must be committed to serving our community with honor, character and integrity. The CCSO must keep order in the courts. Be responsible for providing a security presence in the courthouses, courtrooms and the immediate area surrounding the court complexes. Serve process of court documents such as, but not limited to, criminal and civil orders, subpoenas, emergency protection orders, warrants, child support etc. Enforce court rules regarding prohibited items coming into the courthouse and providing protection to court proceedings as circumstances dictate. Transporting prisoners to and from scheduled court appearances, arresting and taking individuals into custody who are in the court facility or on the premises who have warrants. Perform general law enforcement duties within the courthouses and surrounding grounds of the court complexes.
Court Security Officers regularly work alongside full time sworn deputies as well as performing many independent tasks. This is an armed position.
The 24 hours are flexible where and when possible. Working hours are 8AM to 4PM.
Those accepting the offer of employment must attend a three-week Court Security Officer basic training course conducted by The Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond, Kentucky.
Pay is $19.00 per hour ($20.00 per hour once training is complete)
PREREQUISITES OF BEING A COURT SECURITY OFFICER:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- At least 21 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- Have a valid operator’s license
- Fingerprint cards completed and mailed to the Kentucky State Police
- No prohibition of firearms possession
- Trainees must be able to perform firearms training from a kneeling position and be able to return to their feet without any assistance
- Trainees must demonstrate proper firearms safety habits
- Must not have received a dishonorable or general discharge from the Armed Forces. Must be an Honorable Discharge.
- Pass a drug screen
- Pass a criminal background check
- Pass a polygraph
- Pass end-of-course exams in firearms, defensive tactics and a written test
- No use of marijuana in the last 1 year, no use of illegal controlled substances in the last 6 years.
This position is classified as Non-Hazardous for retirement purposes. No Retirement Credit offered

Academy Information
- Upon hire, recruits begin working in the courts performing on-the-job training while waiting for a spot in the academy.
- The academy is a live-in academy where room and board are provided. Recruits may go home on weekends and holidays.
- The Sheriff’s Office will provide a vehicle for travel to and from the training academy.
